Attended by Magalie Bondu and Sophie Caujolle
From the 25th to the 29th of June 2017, Magalie and Sophie were present at the World of Photonics Congress in Munich, Germany that host more than 3500 presentations. We had the chance to participate to different sub-conferences organised during this congress: the European Conferences on Biomedical Optics, the SPIE Optical Metrology and CLEO®/Europe-EQEC. The conferences covered hot topics in optics and photonics, our main interest was toward biomedicine and applications such as microscopic imaging, spectroscopy, medical lasers and optoacoustic.
Magalie presented her research focused on multispectral photoacoustic microscopy and optical coherence tomography using a supercontinuum source (Presentation Number: EW1C.4, SPIE paper number 10415-9, “Using a single supercontinuum source for visible multispectral photoacoustic microscopy and 1300 nm optical coherence tomography”). She also presented part of her final work realised at NKT Photonics in 2016, The poster shows the characterisation (energy and noise) of a homebuilt supercontinuum with enhanced energy compared to standard products (Presentation number: CJ-P.25, “Development and noise study of an all fibre-based high energy supercontinuum source using tapered photonic crystal fibre for multimodalities”).
Sophie presented her work in collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna in the group of Dr. Rene Werkmeister (Presentation Number: ETu1B.4, SPIE paper number 10416-37, “Comparison between a Supercontinuum Source and a Titanium Sapphire laser in achieving ultra-high resolution Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD-OCT)”).
One of the specificity of this conference is the presence of a significant trade show that is running in parallel: Laser World of Photonics. We had the chance to have a broad view on the industrial world of Photonics with more than 1200 exhibitors and 32 000 visitors. We were able to help NKT Photonics sales force at their booth to appreciate the world of Photonics in an industrial point of view including communication with sales and marketing, as opposed to academic research at the congress.
The Applied Optics Group of the University of Kent, in conjunction with our industrial partner NKT Photonics and associate partner DTU Fotonik, contributed to a total of 5 peer reviewed oral presentations and 3 posters in peer reviewed conferences.
