Magalie BONDU, Felix FLEISCHHAUER and Michael MARIA
San Franscisco (USA)
13th to 18th of February 2016
Three of the UBAPHODESA students went to SPIE Photonics West 2016 conference in San Francisco to present their work. The students were Magalie Bondu, Michael Maria and Felix Fleischhauer. While Magalie presented her work in collaboration with Opticent, a start up in the area of photoacoustic microscopy and optical coherence tomography, in a presentation. She also presented her work on a novel higher power supercontinuum source for biomedical imaging as a poster. Michael Maria presented his work on ultrahigh-resolution complex master-slave interferometry and Felix Fleischhauer presented his work on spectroscopic optical coherence tomography with broadband spectrometer. This work has been carried out by using the state of the art supercontinuum light sources from the collaborator NKT Photonics A/S.
The conference started on the 13th of February and ended on the 18th of February. During all days we attended technical sessions with different optical topics, which was a great opportunity for us to learn more about our research area and even beyond it.
In parallel to the scientific conference, NKT Photonics A/S had their own booths at BiOS and Photonics West exhibitions. All the students took advantage and spent time at the booth to talk to customers and sales managers (we helped as well to setup and take down the booth).
All in all it was a great experience, while we had the chance to meet with other experts in our research area and got many helpful inputs. We also had the chance of getting introduced to the work of sales people during such a large conference.
We would like to thank the European Commission Marie Curie Actions FP7-People-2013-ITN for the opportunity to travel to such an event and share our work in the UBAPHODESA project (project number 607627) with other peers in our area of research.
